- 4 large pears peeled, halved lengthwise, and cored
- 4 cups red Rioja wine
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 Tbs strawberry raspberry or apricot preserves

- Preparation
- In a saucepan just large enough to comfortably hold the pears, combine the pears, wine, sugar and cinnamon stick.
- Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce the heat to low, and cook for about 30 minutes or until the pears are tender when pricked with a fork.
- Lift out the pears carefully and set them aside to cool.
- Remove and discard the cinnamon stick.
- Add the preserves to the pan, raise the heat and boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the preserves melt and the sauce is smooth.
- Serve two pears halves on each plate and spoon the sauce over them.
